Sarah Worthington - glass artist
I seek to fill my work with rhythm, colour, light, texture and movement. I studied sculpture and flirted with illustration and in the end could not escape my childhood draw to Stained Glass. From age 7 standing transfixed in front of Coventry Cathedral’s awe-inspiring windows I have always found coloured light utterly mesmerising and have grown passionate about its constantly changing nuances, dynamically different with the weather and time and month.
My interest in my own learning, working together and inspiring people has led me to develop a large portfolio of community art work. I have worked with a huge range of people on very diverse projects, from sensory gardens to murals – willow sculptures to lantern parades. There’s a strong chance I will have worked in a school or community centre near you, but you are most likely to have seen the result of some of my workshops at the Roald Dahl Festival in Aylesbury town centre – where each year since its start I have been the artist in residence in the secondary schools making colourful giant carnival puppets.
I am very passionate about the environment and work as a volunteer conservation project leader – I have helped to improve habitats throughout the district and all around the world. A few years ago in Aylesbury I helped propagate the female Black Poplars to help preserve this magnificent tree that is such an important part of the Aylesbury landscape and its history.
I am delighted that I have this opportunity to create something permanent in Aylesbury, to celebrate its uniqueness and bring my interests of art and conservation and sustainable living another step closer together.
