about the site
The scheme, which is already underway, will ease the movement of buses around the town centre, improve links for buses and pedestrians between the railway station and the town centre and improve conditions for bus passengers, as well as those cycling and walking.
Improvements include a major refurbishment of the bus station, new bus lanes and a new road link between the railway station and Friarage Road.
Possible locations for the artwork have been identified by the Steering Group as: the Southcourt bridge, the bus shelters, cycle racks, street furniture, information points, way markers and sign posts, foot and cycle paths and design enhancements to external and internal areas such as the car parks, the waiting room(s), the ticket sales desks and the information kiosk in the bus station.
The scope of these locations could include a variety of artforms:
- Solar lighting
- lCD/ LED displays
- Glass work
- Text
- Graphics
- Printmaking
- Surfaces and textures
- Metal work
- Furniture design (such as cycle racks and benches).
- Soft and/or hard landscaping and planting in and around the Hub. This might include traditional parks/green spaces or less traditional artist designed green roofs for bus shelters or planting schemes
